CRNBC exam June 08
Hi
I have just arrived in Vancouver recently and hope to start work next week.
I have afew questions so I thought I'd put it all down and see if anyone has wise words of wisdom. So here they are:
1) I was wondering if anyone is sitting their CRNBC exam in June 08?
2) Or is there anyone out there that has any tips on how to revise for it? I have bought the guide book but looking at it but wondering is this enough.
3) I also see that private tutoring appears to be quite expensive at approx $700-800: has anyone used them before and if so, did you find it helpful or even necessary? I qualified as a RGN in 1997 but have been specialised in infectious diseases for 8 years which obviously has narrowed my knowledge greatly.
Sorry for all the questions but have to admit that I am getting abit nervous about it all so any any info or support would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Liz

Hi LizK
When you are at work next week, find out whether there are any
student nurses doing clinical and preceptorship on your unit.
Ask them about any study group for CRNE and if there is one,ask
to be included in their group. Also newly qualified RNs are another
helpful resources about the CRNE.
I wrote the CRNE ages ago,so can't advise you on specific prep
guides in addition to the one you already have.
Here is the allnurses link and there are some discussions on CRNE.

Good Luck,

Re: CRNBC exam June 08
I just used the prep guide, mostly doing the CD-ROM format. When I looked at the evaluation of the results I just googled anything that I felt I needed to get up to speed on.
I don't know what your specialty/experience is, but I would suggest just making sure that you are up to date on symptoms and treatment of shock, CHD and other general medical stuff and make sure that you have a general understanding of public health issues. The Nursing Code of Ethics is also worth a read.

Re: CRNBC exam June 08
hi my husband is the nurse and he sat the CRNE in ontario in Feb 07, he said it was the hardest thing he had ever done.
he had the study guide, and did the online tests a few times too they cost about £20 and has a segment of questions that might be asked.
from what he said its quite a broad knowledge you need , a bit on mental health, a bit on medical, a bit on pediatrics and obstetrics too.
he said the the Canadian nurses must be the best trained in the world !! they know everything! (its hard for them too thats one of the reasons that they are short of nurses they find it hard to pass it)
all i could say to my OH was that they needed to know how much he knew about everything and not to worry.
needless to say he passed they dont tell you your mark. what a great relief.
He also works on the ID ward too!

at the right time
to the right patient
the right dosage
on the right day or something like that!!!!!!!

Re: CRNBC exam June 08
I sat CRNE in October 2008 and passed. I was very worried as I was originally trained in Russia in 1994 and then worked in UK for 12 years. I resorted to using one of the online tutors and personally found it helpful. She sent me info on what to revise and I did about 10 tests that she sent to me.
Another good thing is that you could request books from CRNBC library for free as long as you are in BC. I did not feel prepared for the June sitting so decided to delay the exam till October and nearly postponed that one as well. It is a hard exam especially if you are used to working in one field. It is best to be well prepared for it that is for sure. I would not have liked to sit it twice plus it costs $600. The other thing I found odd is if you did not pass it is too late to apply for the next exam and your license is probably not valid in that period.
I am sure you will be fine and you have lots of time before June. Good luck
