Hi spaceys,

Planning to head the same way in March. I understood that QLD Health would pay 2 weeks full price and 2 weeks half price accommodation, all we need to do is claim it back. So I was under the impression that we can find some where to live then claim it back; I could be wrong though so it may be worth dropping QLD Health an email.

Where are you heading and what line of nursing. I'm a psychy nurse and have been told I will go to Ronina.

I had two weeks accommodation booked and paid for by Qld health, it was good quality 4* apartment. This is in Cairns but the policy is the same in all qld health hospitals as far as I'm aware.

Glad to hear from you and that you are enjoyin it. Hey thats brilliant RETURN flights as well. There are 4 of us and they are paying for all of us, cant believe it

Anyway have a job at Gold Coast on a medical ward. Not sure yet if it will be Gold Coast Hosp or Robina Campus. Am planning on moving to Robina thou and getting kids into school there so I might email the contact at Gold Coast Health and see if I can get a job at Robina campus.

Is that where you are???? How are you finding the shifts??? is it earlies/lates etc???? I am doing 32 hrs a week (4 days) as didnt want the 5 days, would like an extra day off. Oh and does your ward do a self rota??? Is your friend Sue at the Gold Coast Hosp???? If so whats it like there????

Oh so many questions!!!!

I know the feeling had a million and one questions before i got here! im in icu/ccu at robina (u should come work here) its only been open a few months and pretty quiet from what im used to! the medical ward here is pretty heavy work i think but it will get better as they are expanding the hospital and getting more acute admissions from the new A n E dept.

Sue is at southport on a surgical ward which is really busy n she loves it! Southport is definately the more acute hospital whereas robina is small ( 1 med ward - 1 rehab ward - 1 surgical ward - icu/ccu - A n E and mental health (where mooncat is working!)) so it depends what you want. It would make life easier working in robina if you plan to live here! (its a nice area)

SHIFTS: I work 8 hour shifts at the moment early - 7-3.30, late 1-9.30, night 9-7.30 (4 nights a month) but we are changing to 12 hour shifts in jan so more days off - woo!!!
Sue works same as me for an early but her lates are 2.30 - 10.30 or 11pm! (depending on if she is on an early the next day) n she has only done 1 set of nights since we have been here! They are pretty flexible with our shifts n we self roster here, sue doesn't though, but she just requests certain days off n it works ok!
Hope that answers all your questions! when do you get here? can't be long now! You will love it!

Have been offered $3000 towards moving but also all of our flights and there are 4 of us

Just wondered thou if anyone sorted out accommodation themselves and then claimed back or if QH booked accommodation for you??

Sarah

Sounds like you are having a ball!!!! Might be working at either Robina campus or Gold Coast Hosp. dont mind which really. QH have said that there arent any vacancies at Robina as yet but I am not coming out til March and dont want to start work til end of April so things might change. Lots more wards to choose from at Gold Coast as well thou.

Am really looking forward to coming out there. Robina is only about 15 mins drive from Gold Coast Hosp, i remember from when we went for a look round last year, and both hospitals look good.

Seems like I missed out.....only getting $3000 towards relocation (doesn't even cover the cost of the flights let alone shipping all the boxes!)

Its QH that give the reimbursement, give them your receipts for everything to do with you getting to Oz (medicals, taxi fares, air fares, accomodation receipts) and mine took about 5 weeks in all, got $3500 back. only thing they didnt cover was car hire. You should get $3000 for relocation PLUS your flights paid for if that helps? If in doubt, Ben Archdale Is the man to ask, are you in contact with him yet?
