Default 20 hours per week work experience ?????

Does anyone have info.......on the 20 hour per week rule for nursing work experience?

We are in early stages of applying, main applicant is a nurse with 20 years experience.....E works 2 x 12.5 hour shifts one week and 1 x 12.5 hour shift the next, effectively 25 hours one week and 12.5 the next.

The work experience states an applicant must have been employed for 12 of the last 24 months and for at least 20 hours per week.

Not sure how our circumstances will be interpretated....by definition someone working 20 hours per week but who stopped work 11 months ago is eligible????

Also by definition in our case.....12 out of the last 24 months E has been working 25 hours per week???? Alternatively some may say average working hours over the course of the year are 18.5 hours per week.

Looking for reassurance from anyone who has been in a similar situation or can shed any light on how the defintion is applied when applying??

thanks in anticipation

hi H & E

not surehow they work this out ..i work 3 days a week and 1 weekend in 4 which gives me 28.87 hrs per week ...

i am sure someone put a formula on here (maybe tiredwithtwins, but not sure) on how they work it out..but it might well be that they average it out some how.

sorry i cant be of more help on this but i am sure someone will be able to help

hello!!!
thought my ears were burning lol!

you just have to get a detailed statement that clearly identifies the exact hours that you work ... averaged hours isnt acceptable. so if for the last 5 years you have done the same work pattern, ie 25 hrs one week, 12.5 the next then yes, you do qualify cos you satisfy the rule of at least 20 hours per week for 12 out of the last 24 months

If you can get your human resources to write something to the effect of ... ''XXX has been in continuous paid employment since xx/xx/xx, working a set shift pattern of 25hrs/wk one week;12.5hrs/wk second week'' ... or something to that effect you will be hunky dory

forgot to add that the info above was given to me by john sylvester at Gomatilda, about 3 years ago. the info is therefore 3 years old, but im sure it is still accurate and current.

just remembered something from a few years ago - a poster called lynnlovessun accumulated her hours with a mixture of nhs hours, bank hours and agency hours to total 20+ hours/week - she did a kind of off duty sheet which showed her weekly hours in each job, got each employer to sign and certify it was a true record of her hours, and submitted them - she got her visa no probs. the records ran to about a dozen or so pages,, but it achieved what she was aiming to do, so dont worry if you have to do something similar which turns into an essay ...
