Depends where your going to live, but if your in to night life, then Wellington and Auckland are good.... wellington especially, went on a girls weekend away it was great, still buzzing at 4am in the morning...and free to get into some nightclubs... but where I live its so quiet and no night clubs...you will find it different than the uk....
I do miss my girls nights out, but getting old now so dont worry about that too much...and if your into going to see live bands (international) like I am well they usually only come to Auckland...

My boys are 19 and 23 - wouldn't have come if they hadn't agreed to come with me.
Rightly or wrongly I have taken North Shore to be Auckland - the night life is vivid, depending on what you want. A melting pot of personalities from standard night club, drag, jazz, quite a fertile gay scene etc. You should have no problem being entertained.
Unfortunately we are in Papamoa - about 2.5 hrs away from Auckland.

We occasionally trip up to Aucks. Despite being a bit older than you, we're always up for a night, and Auckland has never disappointed us.
You need to get here, socialise, and start lovin' it.
Some folks complain that they don't get new mates, but if you don't get out, how would you?

Good plan! I think you'll love it. As others have said Auckland is great for night life. But NZ offers so much more 'day life' - if you're into outdoors and sports you'll be in heaven. You should def check out Queenstown for winter sports - its at the bottom of the south island so would have to be for long weekends etc but I would definately give NZ a go.
