When did I say I do not like NZ. I have Posted on here before that I am thinking of moving there when I retire....I also have family there and have spent a lot more time there than many other posters.

Weather. Is it about perspective or fact? Or both?
If I look at rainfall facts for Gosport and New Plymouth it is clear that we have far more rain here in NP. But that is not the whole story, my experience is the rainfall is greater per hour and in often falls at night. So although it is wetter it often doesn't really feel like it. We rarely have days where it drizzles all day long.
The same is true of crowds and space. Where we lived was totally bonkers in terms of traffic and overcrowding. In NP it's much less so. Unless of course you are trying to get into The Warehouse carpark at the weekend when it is just as stupid if not worse than Gosport.
But we found nice quiet places in the UK, away from the maddening crowds. It's just that we could never afford to live there.
Or in the case of anywhere 'oop north' my wife would not contemplate it as she does not suit flat caps or eat mushy peas. She does quite like whippets though.
Of course these could just be my opinions (rather than fact, however they are presented) and as such should be
a) treated with contempt
b) quoted back at me in some kind of escalating troll-fest/spat
c) ignored while we all go and get on with living a life away from a forum
ps - a quick check with my colleagues provided the following indisputable facts about Invercargill:
It rains all the time;
It is close to freezing for 370 days of the year;
Everyone that lives there is either a penguin or descended from a penguin.

Well, weather is a very personally thing. I think the weather is pretty bad in Auckland. Auckland has lots more rain than London! No real hot summer, and the winters are pretty nasty too because very wet and cool. They say this summer was exceptional good, but I thought it is kind of nice but short. Only about 2-3 months were warm enough for swimming.
New York City has good summers. Summer starts in May and the last warm days you usually have in November. It is sunny and it gets really hot in July/August. This makes you long for winter The hot summer is followed by gorgeous autumn! 27 degrees, not humid, sunny, and autumn colors. Marvelous.

Personally, and it's just my opinion, I find temperatures above about 27C too hot to get much done - I'm not a lazing by the pool person. The beauty of Auckland, for me, is that it's rarely too hot or too cold to do the sort of things I like to do - I can race my Laser on a winter's afternoon with just a thin wetsuit, and enjoy a week yacht sailing on the Hauraki Gulf in July without feeling uncomfortable. I've visited NY a couple of times, it was sweltering with tropical rain showers in the late afternoons in July, and rather cold and grey in April. Facinating city though

Careful there Andy, I'm a northerner, I don't have a flat cap or a whippet and didn't eat mushy peas till I moved to the south!
