when and how to get into schools in Auckland?
Looks like we are going to be in Auckland around beginning of December 08.
Our son is 6 and currently in year two in the UK.
Would he have to attend school for 2-3 weeks until the sommer holidays or could we just keep him at home for that short peroid and give him a fresh start in February 09?
Are schools usually able to offer a place to newcomers or are often oversubscribt?
We are going to live in a holiday flat for the first 2-3 weeks before we hope to rent an unfurnished place in the North Shore area.
Would we be able to choose a school with just having been there so shortly and not having a proper tenancy agreement yet?

We came over 2 years ago in Sept and travelled around to see where we wanted to live renting an appartment in Parnell. We ended up in Dannemora in the zone of our preferred school we registered the children into the school which required a tenancy agreement to prove we lived in the zone and they started school in term 4 Oct.Our school mixes the classes up every year.if you live in the zone of the school they are obliged to take you as there seems to be no rule on class sizes like in uk.

schools are all based on catchment area.
Oh and no supprise the better the school the more expensive the housing in that catchment
