What Items to bring
Hello everybody, I am looking at shipping some things out to Christchurch when we move, I could do with some help as I am only renting for the first 6 months or so (to see how we get on in NZ).
I have read on here so many time about things being expensive, but any info on things to bring from the UK that are typically expensive in NZ
Any info will be gratefully received

yeah, anywhere I have seen so far have had built-in wardrobes but sometimes they can be quite small. I'd think about bringing them anyway.

Maybe diff areas but all houses I looked at have huge amount of storage wardrobe space.
Plus second hand furniture is dirt cheap if ur willing to sand n paint. Although paint is stupidly expensive.
To be honest the really expensive here is clothes they are crappy n expensive so I'd stock up. I brought 7 big boxes full of clothes.

Make sure you get your teeth sorted before you come, dentists here are XXXXing expensive.
Good idea to rent first, if you buy be aware, estate agents here charge up to 4% to sell your house and work solely on commission which can bring out the worst in them. Don't trust them and make sure the house you buy is the one you really want as it will cost you plenty to sell it.
PS bring electric blankets as many houses here are little more than sheds with furniture and often have only the most basic heating if any at all. It can get very cold in Chch

don't worry about the heated blankets cheap as chips here. as for house sales you can get fixed price sales so its a case of looking around and playing them off each other.
agree that you need to rent here first before even consider buying, we bought after 6mths and regret it. 6mths you are still in the honeymoon period and what may look like a good area can come back and bite you in the bum after a year or so. take your time no need to rush
