What are the costs?
I'm sure this type of question has been asked before, and I have had a quick search on the forums, but because this is such a popular forum there are too many results, so please excuse me starting a new thread.
We are a family of 5 considering moving to NZ.
My main questions, and I'm sure there will be loads more as things move on are,
What does it cost to move, I'll list below the things I have thought of, but can other people please update / add to the list with approx costs.
Thanks in advance
EOI
PR
Migratory levy
Emigration consultant - are these really needed?
Packing & removal fees
Flights
Initial rental in NZ
A car

Re: What are the costs?
Thanks for the replies. I am also interested to know if I have missed any obvious costs, somebody mentioned medicals, so I'll add that the list, but what else is there?

No way!!!
The application process is very easy and simple to do, there is no need to pay sometimes horrendous amounts of money, in excess of 3000 GBP for something so sequential and logical.
Much wiser to spend the dosh on something more constructive and useful, like the container costs.

Re: What are the costs?
Police certificates - £35 each from ACRO
Medicals and xrays - not got this far yet so cannot help with cost
Full birth certificates - £7.50 each.
Occupational registration if necessary, approx NZ$500 for me plus £30 for a notary public to certify my documents. Obviously variable cost depending on occupation or maybe not necessary at all!.
Can't think of anything else for now, though you may want to consider less direct "costs" such as possibly being out of work for a while and losses occurring due to a poor exchange rate if needing to convert money to live on at first.
I'm keeping a list of how much I'm spending on anything immigration related even if it's only £5. It'll be interesting to see exactly how much I spend in the longrun. After all the small costs soon add up to quite a significant amount. Think I'll only add it up at the end, it's starting to look scary and it's only a very short list at the moment!
Well it has to be done to get where I want to be
Oh and Nice Guy's right, the EOI form is easy to do yourself with a little help from on here and NZIS website if necessary. No need to waste money paying someone to do it for you!

Renewing Passports?? ( Minimum of 3 years is recommended)
Possible cost of recci for job interviews

Accommodation for first 2 weeks (minimum) or bond if going into rental property
New school Uniforms, stationary and school fees
and those are just the ones I can think of!!!

Re: What are the costs?
We shifted over last year. 2A, 2 Kids. I think all in all it cost us £15,000, that included a 6 day recce for job interviews and to check out schools, housing, shops, etc - just me and OH. One-way tickets for emigration had to pay 3A prices as one child age 12. House sale fees also included in that. And the meter continued running as soon as we landed with buying a car, house, stuff to keep us going whilst waiting for the container, MAF fees (a whopping $485 to inspect 55 boxes from our container which were all cleared as ok within 30 minutes and didn't need cleaning; wish I was on their hourly rate ), oh and don't forget to allow for paying all those bills up to date before you leave, gas, elec, water, council tax, and clearing all loans, credit cards, etc, etc.
X-rays were: single person £45, or £40 per person in family of 4+
Medicals were: from memory around £900 and that was just bog standard ones with no extra blood tests or other tests reqd.
Police checks were £10.00 each, I think.
Container 20': £3,150
MAF fees: $485
Sorry, honestly can't remember all the visa/PR fees.
We did use an Emigration Consultant, think it was around £1,500, half up front, half on completion.
Hope this helps. Good luck
