Default Week 4: idyllic - and not so idyllic ;-)

Today we took the dogs to the river. Pictures attached. Last week we took them to the beach, but they deposited sand all over the back of the car so we thought we would go for "stoney" rather than "sandy"

We were thrilled to see that we had the river bank all to ourselves. There was a dog or two in the distance, but basically it was ours, all ours We had a lovely walk, they were in and out of the water, and all was heavenly. We still can't believe we live here. The picture shows our black ute, on the shore. All alone

Then we noticed an unusal number of vehicles on the road nearby. Rather a lot of four wheel drives actually, some with trailers.... but nowhere near us, so no problem, as we walked alongside the touquise glacier-fed melt waters, enjoying the peace....

Then we saw a rather low red helicopter too

hmmmmmmmm?????

Then we saw a sign. It was quite small, by the side of the road, hard to spot really

caution, jet boat racing today

AWESOME

Couldn't believe how close to us they were.

I want one now

AWESOME! thanks Jan , great pics & so lovely to see NZ and its beauty, been over a year and half since I was there last.

Cant believe how close jet boats were to you, must have been an incredible sight watching them.

Another fab update with great pics you have raised the standard of your updates now, will expect more pics in future

Also great timing with the posting

Neil bought me a Canon digital SLR EOS camera couple of years ago: a (slower) compact digital would not have caught these in shot, they were so fast! The boats are a bit blurred in the above pics but recognisable.

In a way it could have been a recipe for disaster - and would not be allowed in the UK - cos the boats were so close, but that jet engine noise when they went past................
WOW

Cool ... love watching the jet boats - when we passed over the old waimak bridge on Sunday it looked as though it was heaving!

You'd best go back next weekend then .. as it's the helipro jet boat racing. My little lad is already getting excited!
