A very general rule of thumb is the western areas are wet whilst the eastern areas are not as wet. On the South Island there is this very large chain of mountains called the Southern Alps that blocks much of the rain that blows in off the Tasman Sea to the west. So a place like Greymouth will get more than twice the rainfall of Christchurch.
Temperature-wise, Auckland will have warmer overall temperature, although a place like Alexandria in the Deep South will often have the highest temperatures in the nation during the summer.
Even within local areas there can be a variation of temperature and precipitation. Hell, just in Auckland there's a difference between Waitakere City out on the west side and Howick to the east side.
At any rate, come on out, get a job where you want to live and get on with your life.

Suerte!

Hiya leewales. We are from Cardiff and we've been here in the Bay of Plenty for 19 months. Genrally the weather is much better here than in Wales. The summers are much warmer and drier and the winters not so cold and wet.
It doe rain though and when it does it p155e5 down!

If you need any advice on the move then just PM me and I will do what I can to help

When it rains, it hoses down. That's why it's so green here we're in Auckland and the last few days (bearing in mind that I thought winter had come last week) have been absolutely glorious. I've been off work too so my tan is better than it was during the summer In Auckland there can be 2 degs difference between East Auckland and the North Shore (warmer on the Shore ) And if 20 degs is forecast you can be sure it feels more like 23-25.
