The best thing would be to spend a little time searching through the website
then fire away with any more questions you might have.
Your questions are to wide at the moment, it like saying where's a nice place
to live in the uk?? everyone's got a different opinion

Hi Dave, just wanted to welcome you to our (mostly) friendly NZ forum . As Justcol suggests, take time to browse the forum & then start asking specific questions.
As Genesis has pointed out, BEVS our super-duper moderator is the fount of all knowledge relumbing. There have been other threads on this in the not-to-distant past so try the search function.
Hope you get lots of answers from the expo & here. Good luck with your plans & happy posting.

Hi dave, firstly you need to decide what part of NZ you want to go to? i would imagine your skills would be in demand, but again depends were you settle. Housing rentals are not that cheap and again depends on where you go. We arranged our rental from the Uk and collected our keys the week we arrived we used iron bridge property management. I must say they were excellent. We rented a 3 bed town house which was brand new for $350 per wk. It was really nice for the money and in an ok area. Luckily we had a cousin here who done the viewings to ensure it was a good area. Like every where there are suburbs here you wouldnt want to stay in so do your home work. We have since bought a new house and its fab. Good luck and if you have any more questions let me know i will try my best to answer. Again worry about schools when you know were your going.

Re: wanting a fresh start in new zealand
Kia Ora and welcome to our cosy wee NZ forum.
Plumbers and gasfitters are not currently in shortage here in New Zealand. They have been in the past but not at the moment . This would mean that an NZ employer would have to prove that there is no New Zealand registered plumber that could fill the vacancy unless the employer was 'accredited ' with New Zealand Immigration. There is recession here just as elsewhere . Many tradesmen have found themselves on short working hours, my plumber/gasfitter husband included.
To emigrate to New Zealand as a plumber you will need to show that your UK quals and work exp match NZ requirements & standards. The first port of call for this is the NZ PGDB.(please click the linky). You will need to get your trade quals , apprenticeship and work exp pre-assessed by the PGDB . New Zealand Immigration state that it is a requirement to be NZ trade registered.
You can't work in the plumbing trade without having a PGDB license. As you won't be able to become Nz registered straight off, or for perhaps a year or so, you will work on a restricted license - bit like an apprentice or labourer - and your work will need to be 100% supervised and signed off . You can't be a self-employed plumber either.
Plumbers here don't do tiling. Tilers do.
All of the above assumes that you are a time served trade plumber wanting to emigrate to New Zealand
