I did too. I have to say, I agree with the sentiments expressed. I find the Maori culture fascinating but hand-outs & the greed shown by some Maori will cause mayhem in the not too distant future. The divisiveness is not in the best interests of the country.

It's a very interesting article.
I live about 15 minutes away from Waitangi, so for the last 2 years have got up at 4am and headed over to take part in the dawn service. It's incredibly moving. What was lovely was the welcome everyone got from the person leading the ceremony. What was also very clear is that there are a lot of Maori people who just want to get on with things as New Zealand, rather than a them and us. How lovely that would be.
As ever, and this is only my tiny opinion, it's the vocal, angry few that get most listened to and the most publicity.
Living and working where I do I have never felt anything but welcome and have only come into contact with the generous and warm.

I think that NZ should be applauded for at least attempting to put right some wrongs and not shying away from the issues. Whether the currently offered solutions are the right ones I am not so sure, but the sentiment is right.......... I think
The emphasis placed on a bicultural society in education will help with future generations, but this will obviously take time. It is important that people are open to both sides of the discussion and to accept that often the headlines are not the real story. As PD says, the loudest ones are not always correct and often do not speak for the majority.
