Default URGENT: Travel Insurance problems

Hello you helpful people, I wondered if you could help me with one final thing on my travels.

Just realised we've left our travel insurance to the last minute as we've come up against a stumbling block - everyone we've tried will only cover our personal effects up to £2K in the hold / handluggage, however our stuff is worth £10K.

Any ideas anyone? Am I missing something on Google as I can't find an immigration specialist travel insurer who will cover to this level.

Hopesomeone can help before I have a hernia? lol. The shippers come in a few days and the computer is going then too :scared:

lol, let's just say we like our electrical items, and have expensive taste in clothes I've probably over-estimated by a bit but not a great deal. Could probably get away with £8K. Maybe we're bringing too much in the cases that should be sent on the ship...

I have been ringing insurance brokers all morning and they don't offer the right cover. Just finding one that offers immigration cover is proving a job, then they'll only cover up to £2K tops, which only covers the laptops and camera.

Oh why oh why Mike Henry doesn't appear to cover - anyone know of a UK firm that offers this level of insurance? I'd like to book today if I can but it's not looking hopeful.

What tries us only makes us stronger

Hi Lapsed Kiwi,

Thanks for posting this, unfortunately tho (as we're finding with most) Southern Cross wont insure us except for healthcare as they technically class us as NZ residents when quoting, and therefore wont offer immigration travel insurance to us...there has to be a solution to this, surely?!

Just when I thought I had this move sorted Nearly there, just got to keep my sanity intact now!

Who did you book your flights with?
We struck the same problem, went back to STA who sold us the flights, and they gave us insurance to cover the one way flights, including a very expensive mountain bike, camera equipment, laptop etc etc. We had easily the same value of items as you.

What is 'immigration cover'? You just want travel insurance to cover your flights, stopover (?), luggage and medical emergency. Once in NZ you can easily find insurance to cover your personal belongings.

Hi Apple,

We booked with our airmiles so no travel agent involved.

When we've been ringing around we've been told by people that the norm travel insurance policies wont be valid, as we have to be returning to the UK for them to provide a payout in the event of losses. Therefore you need a policy that is especially covering immigration. I can't think what to do, except perhaps get some sleep for this eve, it is 2am and I've been ringing around NZ companies since the UK ones can't seem to help with anymore than £2K of cover!

You would have thought someone would have this market cornered, but no alas I've tried them all, from Southern Cross to Mike Henry, to Insure & Go, to even my own bank, nobody will cover.

We will be putting another policy in place after the flight, but it's the particular circumstances we're having trouble covering, plus the amount of valuables we're taking onboard

If you booked with your emiles, does the airline involved offer travel insurance? Ring up the airline and see if they have any solutions...
Have you tried http://www.duinsure.com opr http://www.worldnomads.com/. Maybe you need to be searching for how the backpacker market handle this...?

Our travel insurance was also left to the last minute. The problem we found was that not many would do one way insurance. We ended up using the Post Office and got it sorted within 2 days.
