Hi Evreyone!
Thanks for reading me!
I am a registered mental health nurse of 8 years at a high grade (G) currently working in the UK, in the community.
Can anyone tell me how I can qualify to work, with the proviso, of emigrating to NZ on a permanant basis. I have been round and round in circles on the web. All I can find is the EOI, I dont know where to find this to fill out or even if my career is one that they are looking for right now, what my salary would be in a large city such as Wellington and if I would qualify?
I dont appear to qualify on the basic points system, scoring only 80 points when 100 appears to be required to be able to go ahead with the EOI? Although I do qualify for OZ? with NZ is it customary to get a job offer first? Is this how it works?
Any info would be appreciated. I have a wife and young baby daughter who would be coming with me. Could we live on my salary alone?
Thanks very much, really appreciate your help at this stage.

as a registered nurse you are on the long term shortages list so would be able to get a job pretty easy
are you sure on your EOI score - given your quals I would have thought it would be higher.
I take it you've been to the immigration website - go here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...vepermanently/ and then down the right hand side you'll find the long term shortages list, the EOI form and guide, the points checker etc etc
also try these:
www.nursingcouncil .org.nz and www.nzno.org.nz for advice on working in nursing in nz.
you will stand a better chance if you've got a job to go to - if you go to www.dhbnz.org.nz it will link you to all the district health boards (nz version of nhs) and they all have recruitment pages.
I work as an OT in a community mental health rehab team - the wages for nurses have recently gone up - I think it's about $55,000 now - the nzno is the union site so should be able to give you more info. I have 2 children and we both need to work - we were advised to aim for a monthly budget of $4000 take home, which is about $70-$75k per year - however there are lots of people who earn less and manage - depends on whats important to you
Good luck

We are both nurses also, we emailed District Health board of the area we wanted to live, they emailed back with jobs in areas for both of us. They then suggested we log our EOI and submit application.
We did this (complete EOI online and pay your money) then let health board know you have done so (I think that this shows committment to them) We then had a telephone interview about 2 weeks after (very quick, much better than english HR system!)
We both were offered jobs subject to references, then you can fax the update of a job offer to EOI at immigration, this prioritises your application.
Once you find a contact at health board they are very helpful and this is easily done on interenet.
We have been selected from our EOI and are now waiting for ITA part of application. We are also trying to sell our house and thinkt hat this will be the slowing factor in all the process.
Good luck

We have been issued with residence visas and with the job offer had 160 points (it was a matter of telephone interview for the job, very easy) I am also going from practice nursing to acute setting in hospital, so again different job altogether. My visa states that I have to stay in this job for 3 months ( or a job requiring the same skills) so I may move on quite soon, seemed a good way to get to know the system working in an acute setting. We have money to put down on a property here from the sale of our house in the uk, and will initially manage on my wage, which is possible, once our children are settled then my husband will get a job, he works in IT so hopefully will have no probs. If I can help with anything please let me know!

Thanks for the advice, not sure if we will be able to afford living, Yes we also would money to transfere to NZ from the sale of our house but i would suspect we will use the vast majority on relocation deposit car etc.
How are you finding it out so far? and had you visited prior to your move?
Hope it is working out for you and your family.
Paul.
