Hi,
I have used tower, they were the cheapest from the internet. Or email a few travel agents see what they will offer.

AFAIK you have to declare that you are a UK resident to obtain UK travel insurance.

I thought that, but what makes you a resident. We are going back to live and are all British, just been away a while !

If you live in the UK...which by the sound of it you don't. Not worth trying to get around the rules...if you try to make a claim the insurance company can easily find out that you are not a resident of the UK. Not only will you be left to pick up the bill but you will have committed fraud.

You said you are returning to the UK via the US. As medical treatment is extremely expensive in the US...you really do need to make sure that you have a water tight insurance policy.

How long is the trip over there? My husband left here in July went via US and it cost around $140 which was 10 days cover.
Take heart i have to buy it for my daughter & her bf and as they are returning I have been quoted over $300 each.
Safest just to pay I think.

No, you would have to prove you had been resident there. Even though you have left NZ if you needed to proove anything you would not be able to show you had been living in the UK.
also you definately need insurance for the US.

No you are not and I think you know that. It is the country you are resident in when purchasing the insurance.

Hi Nelsonpom

I googled this when we came back, I can't remember who we used but it was a company that specialised in one way travel ins for back packers I think!? I know I organised it all online with out too much trouble....once I found the company! Sorry ...not much help but do shop around and make sure you get the cover you want / need.

Best wishes for your journey.....
B

i think that this is quite interesting though - because if you get ill and then have to get repatriated home on your travel insurance - they would count New Zealand as your home - but if you are travelling to live in the UK - you would want to be repatriated there. quite a complicated situation - i would actually phone and speak to the insurance companies to work out the details.

Thanks, this is one of my concerns as well as not wanting to deal with a nz company if i am back in uk. Have contacted a few companies now (both countries) and will see. Jersey as a moderator you need to wind your neck in a bit as I am not trying to con anyone or bend rules just a very stressed out person going home who wants the best for his family and if things do go pear shaped i want to be covered. For your info most replies I am getting say the trip has to start and end in the same country (this from nz and uk companies) I am just after advice.

Hi,

Again it is not a problem with the companies in NZ. Some do not do one way but as I said Tower do. You do not pay for your kids Im sure just the adults but your all covered. It is expensive but worth it. Just be sure to say its one way when you phone up.
I did get a good price from House of travel just recently and think I will be going with them.
