Default Mortgage from overseas

Silly I know, but here goes anyway.

What are the chances of a NZ mortgage being approved from overseas?

I have just literally seen my dream house on Trade Me (as in I know the house, the street, the area...it is a once in a lifetime opportunity). I have never seen this house for sale - EVER.

Our circumstances are.....We are heading over in January 2013. I am a returning kiwi, we have a healthy deposit (just under 50% of house value), will have no debt in NZ or UK, have a firm job offer ready to start in Jan with a good package.

Is it worth even contacting banks/mortgage brokers or is it just silly to even think about it at this stage?

Off to have a calming glass of wine......

no idea but if you don't ask you won't know.

maybe call a mortgage broker and see what they can do for you.
also do you know anyone in the area that can go and do a look round and organise builders report etc?

We did exactly this in 2006. Everything was done over phone/email and was unbelievably simple. We bought it on the basis of it being a rental investment initially.
