Default Travel Insurance

Has anybody purchase one way travel insurance from NZ? I can't seem to get cover unless I specify a date I will be returning to NZ.

Quite common, no matter what country you come from. They will only cover you for the length of your visit. no return date means you could be away for a long time! As travel insurance covers health as well as the usual - delays , luggage etc - the insurance company could be on the hook for months with no idea when you are coming back!.

If you see a broker you may be able to get one way cover for the non health part , alternatively put in a return date but remember any cover you have will cease on the the date you put for the return. You can get separate expat health insurance on an ongoing basis - but at a cost.

Will have a think about this and see if I can remember a name; as it's been mentioned before that there is a company that does one-way. There's an issue if you book normal return insurance and something happened to you, the insurer would expect to repatriate you to NZ, rather than sending you to your destination in the UK.

ETA here's one: http://www.1cover.co.nz/travel-insurance-one-way.html

Sorted! Bought a Downunder insurance policy for backpackers (with unlimited medical cover which I am going to need as I will be in the US & Canada for 2 weeks) and gave an approximate return date of 6months away - flippin expensive though!
