Default Taranaki

I'm thinking of spending the Easter weekend in Taranaki. Anybody got any recommendations for accommodation and things to do in the area?

Hey - New Plymouth is the best place to base yourself... lots of accomodation options depends on your preference i.e. camping/hotel etc.. fitzroy beach motel is quite new - 2 Kms from CBD and next to surf beach.. things to do: Chaddy Charter seal trip on boat leaves the port area, coastal walkway 6km promenade, climb paritutu rock (large rock next to port, 20 minute climb easy... nice views), trip to Egmont national park or Dawsons falls... Dam dropping with Taranaki Outdoor Adventures (TOA), basically paddle down river and slide down face of a dam on a body board! lots of restaurants (recommend Garlic press), bars (recommend Frederics) - have fun!

You could stay at the EcoInn in the shadow of Mt Taranaki, it's a really cool place. The guy who runs it is a legendary, he has knocked up these wind turbines, water wheels out of washing machines and a huge solar powered battery array.

There is a hot tub and the double rooms are pretty cool, they will also give you a lift to the moutain if you are climbing it.

Hands down climbing Mt Taranaki is the best thing I have ever done. The views from the top were just gob smacking.
