Stuck in the Far North

Stuck in the Far North
Was meant to travel to Auckland today..must be there by tomorrow night.
But Mother Nature has different view. Not sure the rest of NZ know just how bad it's been up here. No roads out South. Photo attached of SH1 just outside Kawakawa, closed.

I'd like to write that this is not a usual occurrence but it is.
Stay safe and let's hope the weather eases soon.

It's been pretty awful down here & was aware that it was much worse in Northland. Have you managed to get down this way. Anything we can help you with?

Re: Stuck in the Far North
I'm heartily sick of this weather. The succession of storms that have plagued the upper North Island recently are out of control. In ten years I can't remember such a run of foul weather.
Rainfall, I get. It's NZ, it gets wet. But usually its a few house or rain, then something else. This has been cross between tropical storms and a good old English greyness. Not overly cold but really miserable - the ground is utterly sodden, and the winds have been unrelenting.
I do recall a fair few years back, the joyous announcement on the news/weather that Auckland was about to get it's first dry weekend for 13 WEEKS. That was redonkey as well, but these strings of storms (how many is it now - 5? in the last 3 months?) is just mental. It can't carry on surely.

Couple of major ones have hit the South Island too this winter, lots of major land slips, cut roads and rail and widespread power cuts....sadly its not just an issue for Northlanders.

Sorry people I didn't get any notifications about replies to this.
Things are slightly better in that the water in Moerewa and around Kawakawa has gone down. SH1 is being 'mended' to allow trucks through. We got down to Auckland for sons hospital appointment by taking a 14km detour around the slip. An interesting drive on a gravel road, not half as bad as people were claiming - driven worse on Dartmoor!
Two of the detours are closed to lorries, the only other detours for them add an extra 2 1/2 hours on.
Some of the flooding around Hikurangi is horrific, farms totally under.
We had about 510mm of rain.
A learning curve!
Back to beautiful sunshine and ice-creams on the beach today. Yippee!

Re: Stuck in the Far North
Heard it was the equivalent of a years rainfall in a week? Yikes. The weather here is screwed. Maybe it will be un-live-able in ten years time - just wall to wall lashing rain and endless windyness. Maybe building an ark.
