Airport Taxis
World's most expensive city for airport taxis revealed - and it isn't London or New York | Mail Online
I can't believe where they've got that quote of $45 from. Every time I've got a cab back to the hotel in Merivale from Christchurch Airport, it's been between $60 and $70. The meter is ridiculously expensive when just getting into the taxi.
Must be rubbish though because it's A: The Daily Mail and B: nothing is so expensive in NZ compared to the UK bla de blah

From the centre of Dunedin to the airport can cost you $100 in a taxi, if you live at the other side of town that could go up to $150 easily. To make it worse the airport isn't linked to town by public transport. Backwards.

Re: Airport Taxis
The one and only time I ever got a taxi in NZ was as a brand new arrival fresh off the plane at Auckland Airport. Way back then, nine years ago it cost $85 to get to the CBD on a Sunday morning with next to no traffic. That was a shock to the system but lesson was soon learned - I have never taken a taxi since.

8 years ago, Auckland Airport to the CBD, also on a Sunday morning, was $45 for 4 of us.

Well I thought so too but it seemed to be about the going rate when we asked around; I'd say you got lucky or prices have more than doubled in eight years.

As petrol has increased by around 60% since then, $80-90 sounds about right for now.

Amazes me how the same trip can be a totally different price, went from work to the hospital the other day, then back again and the the taxi back was $5.00 cheaper!!!

Re: Airport Taxis
I've resorted to paying for parking at Auckland Airport now, it's seems to be the best value option and even parking at the airport, as opposed to park and ride. If you book early enough, it is usually cheaper than a return journey by taxi.
Over Easter I'm going to be out of the country for 16 days, to keep my car under cover at the airport is currently $187 for that period, 2-3 mins walk from the terminal.
$121 for uncovered parking, 2-5 mins walk from the terminal.

I was in Auckland for work last year, and we stayed at the Jetpark Hotel. They seemed to do good deals where you stay one night, leave the car there for however long, and they drop you iff and pick you up. Sometimes those deals work out cheaper than parking.
