Default South island trip

L and I are just back from a mammoth South Island trip, this is something I've wanted to do since the day we arrived here, so after much saving we finally did it, and it was better than I could have wished for!

If anyone wants to have a look at what we did it's here

http://thebigsouthislandtrip.blogspot.com/

obviously a lot of it will be boring cos it's me rambling on and I am most definitely not a writer! But there is stuff about places to see and things to do.
Oh and lots of nice pictures

Those pics are beautiful! The glacier tunnel looks great.

Do you have a really good camera as well or are they on just a regular wee digital camera?

L does have a good camera, but most of them were taken with a panasonic lumix,, it's a great wee camera! but to be honest you can't really go wrong, it's so beautiful you just point and shoot!

Thank you SO much for posting this!!! We're going to New Zealand in November for the first time and will be visiting the South Island exclusively. Looking forward to checking it out.

Wow what lovely pictures especially the Glacier Tunnels. The sky also looks so blue in your pics. We are in the South Island and one day may get down to Milford Sound and over to the Glaciers. We have also stayed at The Moorings in Wanaka and as you say it is a lovely place. We have also gone down as far as Queenstown. Still lots more to explore. Wow that traffic in Auckland, reminds me of the M5 in summer back home in the westcountry uuuggghhhhh!!! Oh thank goodness for the lovely south island roads.

You're welcome! I hope you have a lovely time when you visit.

Shirl, Milford Sound has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Thanks for that Pixidust...I've just spent a pleasant half-hour reading it...we are 'doing our Grand South Island Tour in December/January so I may well borrow some of your itinerary and restaurant tips....I had already drawn up a provisional route - glad the Hanmer Springs were worth doing.
Glad you liked Wellington as well but then even if you didn't, you wouldn't dare to say so given all the Wellie posters on here.

Norah, I expected to be cold but I wasn't once, I had all these layers of clothes and I was boiling! But I am really not the right person to comment on coldness - I love the cold and have a very wonky thermostat.
There were times I was walking round and people were in warm coats and scarfs etc and I had a tshirt and top!
We loved Wellington - going to get a grabaseat deal one of these days or save flybys and go for a weekend!

Photos look wonderful even the one of Auckland Harbour Bridge! Many thanks for sharing.

Plan to take Mrs. V to Hanmer Springs one of these days, useful information on the private spas. That'll save me some dosh.

Another thing about the springs, we waited till it was dark, it was beautiful just sitting there watching the stars. It was really quiet then too.
We stayed in a really lovely, friendly place there and I can't remember what it was called, but from the front it looked like a creamy coloured villa, on the main road.
