What are people only grumbling about the cost of the higher priced tickets ??

You can get tickets for England games for less the 100 bucks each.

I could have stayed at home and watched a few of the FA cup finals
I've been to and got a "better view" but nothing will beat being at wembley
when United beat Liverpool and stopped them winning the treble way back
in 1977. What a day, what a game and I WAS THERE

You have to remember Rugby Union has only recently turned from an unpaid sport to a professional conflict hence supporters are not used to paying more than a couple of pounds to get a seat. Soccer supporters are used to being ripped off every Saturday whilst we are not....

Well said, kiwis seem to be armchair fans. The worse kind of fan.

Just been able to say 'I was there' is priceless.

Sorry Barnsleymat but you are not making sense... You say you are a Barnsley FC supporter/fan but live in NZ and then you say....

I've always said people should support their local side, I'm seriously looking forward to supporting Waitakere United who have ex Barnsley player Martin Bullock and I'll be trying to get to see the All Whites featuring 4 ex Barnsley players. Fallon, Bertis, Christie and Mulligan.

I've even started writing some new chants :)

Spotted my error when I'd made the post.

Yes we did lose to southampton in 76 but we did win it in 77,83,85,90,94,96,99,04

Answer: Between April 2008 and July 2010, 184 matches involving 86 nations played qualifying matches before the final 20 teams were found.

Hardly an indication of the worldwide depth of the game, looking at the teams that had to qualify from the wiki, only one (Samoa) must have a chance of beating any of the auto qualifiers in the real thing, and they one played one team in the extensive qualification - a play off which they won 115-7 and 73-12!

NZ's 20th best team could probably have comfortably qualified in some of the groups.

Gotta agree, is there any worldwide information on sports by participation??
All I could find from Wiki Answers was this (so I added a bit)

1) Football: 3.3-3.5 billion fans (Europe, Africa, Asia, Americas, etc.)
2) Cricket: 2-3 billion fans (India, UK, Pakistan, Asia, Australia, etc.)
3) Field hockey: 2-2.2 billion fans (Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia)
4) Tennis: Around 1 billion fans (Europe, Americas, Asia)
5) Volleyball: Around 900 million fans (Asia, Europe, Americas, Australia)
6) Table tennis: Around 900 million fans (Asia, Europe, Africa, Americas)
7) Baseball: Around 500 million fans (US, Japan, Cuba, Korea, Dominican Republic)
8) Golf: Around 400 million fans mainly in carts (US, Canada, Europe)
9) Gridiron (American football): 390-410 million fans (US mainly)
10) Basketball: Not more than 400 million fans (US, Canada mainly)
99) Rugby (NOT football you fools!!): About 40 blokes and a dog in a windswept caketin (Europe, America's cold bits and some corned beef raising parts, Bits of Africa's nether regions, some islands that fell off Asia, Australia, Sundry Pacific Islands, Land of the Long White odd shaped balls)

Reckon qualifying for RWC is about 1000 times easier than for the FIFA world cup, you know the football one, not the rugby one.

There being about 10900 times more footie players than "egg-chasing th*gs" in the world. ;)

yep that's why I asked if anyone has anything on "participation"......

and my quote clearly says "fans".

You must have been in too many rucks left you with concussion.

Doubt that more people play rugby worldwide than play cricket in India, unless you mean playing it has to be done on turf/pitch with a ref/umpire and the kit washed afterwards by some housekeeper before the house teams break for rectal flower arranging....in that case I suppose more people might be out there biting, gouging and punching with or without the optinal broken backs from scrum-anigans.

Bet golf, swimming, cricket, baseball, basketball and a few other team games are more popular than Union.

Gotta see some of those 'hospitality packages' to believe it.. read the small print some are not even at the games.

Erm this event is actually held at some offsite tent, with a big screen and all you can eat and drink for $5,000 a pop.

I really enjoyed the fireworks down on the Waterfront and lovedthe craziness around Queen Street but disappointing to see many empty seats in Eden Park.

What other sporting event would be kicked off in a below sell out crowd?

It's a good job us Poms are here to fill up some seats.

Why is that that a glass (or 2 ) of bubbly at that time of the morning is fine but a glass of sav blanc seems not quite right?

Bubbly good, first half good. Now for England Argentina (at work for that, so will have to watch repeat).

Well, a glass of sav blanc at that time says 'Bloody hell, it's morning, can't face the world without alcohol, in fact anything will do, now where did I leave the rest of the bottle from last night or did I drink it?; not to worry, there's always the turps in the garage if I can't find it. Then I'll have another with breakfast and work my way through five bottles by sunset'
Bubbly says 'Wowww, time to get up, have a glass of champers and celebrate the start of another fantastic day'
Well that's my take on it anyway:unsure::lol:

900 seats were left empty because the tickets were paid for by stolen credit cards and were subsequently cancelled. Three men arrested, one deported back to Africa

It was a complete sell out (sold out about midday). Could see a small number of empty seats from where we were sitting but that is probably more due to the transport problems than anything.

The transport was absolutely shocking ,we did all the right things took the train. Going in wasn't too bad 1 hour for a 20 min journey. But coming home took 2 1/2 hours and that was after we ditched the train and got a bus (which we had to fight to get on) 9/10 of the way home.

I have never seen a queue for the train as long as that, it was unbelievable, must have snaked for nearly a km out of the station.

I honestly think we would have still be in town if we had waited for the train!

The roads were completely dead, carparks in town were hardly used. It was great, I checked the traffic cams and couldn't believe my eyes. They was so much scare mongering going on everyone must have fallen for it and left the cars at home, which in turn over loaded the public transport system which even on normal days is terrible. Just before we set off they were filming down near the cloud saying don't try to get onto Quay St, I bet 35 minutes later we were there travelling from Henderson.

If you're going to Eden Park again, give me a shout, you can park at my work close to the stadium.
