Returning to the UK
After 15 wonderful years in NZ we have decided to return home to England. Being away from all of our family is proving too hard and as travel for holidays is so difficult with covid it’s time to go home. Can we just arrive in the uk and start over or do we need to re apply for British Passports now? As the vaccine rollout here is so slow, can we just go home with a negative test and get vaccinated there? I have tried all avenues to get answers but hit brick walls every turn I make.

Re: Returning to the UK
If you are a British citizen you can return with whatever passport you normally travel on. If you have become a nz citizen that doesn't change anything, but obviously you will need a passport of some nature to travel on.
Not sure where you've been looking but a simple look on Google will give you everything you need to know.

I don’t recall the exact details, but a kiwi coworker that also had a UK passport and was coming back from his OE managed to get so thing similar to a RRV in his UK passport to come home and save the cost of a passport renewal.

Re: Returning to the UK
If you arrive in the UK, inform the Border official that you are returning for good, and have no proof of being British citizens (expired British passport, birth certificates, etc) then, at best, you can expect to be questioned, allowed in as visitors and told to get your British passport asap.
You should get your British passports before you go.
