I've just watched a bit on the news about kiwi's living in the uk and missing nz, and they've just had a festival for them, and i thought i know how they feel!!!

Maybe we should do the same??!!

They've been having this 'Toast NZ' festival for a few years now (there is also a Toast Australia one too). I went 2 years ago before I emigrated here and it was brilliant - also my first introduction to Dave Dobbyn and Hayley Westenra.

I know, friends of mine have gone along a number of times! They also do allsorts of cultural stuff too, especially on anzac day.

Thinking about this more, there are lots of chinese, indian, hindu, etc festivals celebrated in New Zealand, but are there any for english people?

Haven't been to anything 'English' but everyone goes mad on St Patrick's day in March whether they have Irish connections or not.

Well we are NZ residents and lived there for 6 years and had great time, have been back in the Weald in Kent since Nov 2008 and really enjoying living in England again for the moment. Had fantastic xmas and plenty of snow and since April it has been mostly sunny and v hot much hotter than we had in NZ and this week it will top 91. Schools all very good and kids all settled back in, London fantastic to work in again after so long away. National trust and good pubs, plus have tickets for Wimbledon finals yeeha. So in short both fantastic countries looking forward to doing some touring of Europe and prob back to NZ in five years or so miss the snapper fishing HA HA.
I think ideal situation would be to have a house in both counties and spend summers in both, anyway plenty of Kiwis over here to make me not to home sick and I can get Speights in a jug in town so all good.

Cheers

Why on earth would anyone (apart from one eyed loyal kiwis) buy NZ beer in Europe?

That's like going to the Champagne region of France and drinking Blue Nun.

For the same reasons that we would eat fish n chips anywhere! (Whats a one eyed loyal kiwi anyway??? )
Maybe a person from Germany would prefer Blue Nun no matter where in the world they are!

Actually I doubt that Germans ever drink Blue Nun - it's the cr@p they export to tasteless Brits! Maybe a decent Riesling or one of those less spellable ones that are actually drinkable

Can't stand it either but was using example given by OP, hopefully the irony got across!

Probably the same reason that Brit expats ocasionally pay over the odds for Walkers Crisps - its a taste and memory of home.
