Smile RE Trailers?

Hi,

We are hoping to bring our aluminium trailer with all our camping gear in, in the container, is there anything special we should be doing to it?
and does it need registering etc when we get there (it is a 3 x 5ft)
Are reg plates easy to obtain?

cheers

Niki

hi
Take a look at

http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/roa...box-guide.html

Unlike the UK, in NZ trailers & caravans need to be tested (warranted) and licensed sepperatly from the car that tows them.

Also, you may have to buy, or make, a wiring adaptor from the European round fitting to the type used here.

Hope this helps

Hi
We shipped over a traler in our container, just make sure the wheels have been jet washed. We had no problems at all.
We did just have to change the coupling when we got her, it cost pennies. No problem getting it registered.

many thanks for the replies,
where do you have to register it? do you have to tax it like a car?
regards

You need to get a warrant of fitness, just take it down with yr car to the nearest warrant of fitness garage, the will give u a card to put on the triler to show it is road worthy. Can't remember how much, but it was not a lot of money. A word of advice Don't forget u have to MOT yr car (WOF) every 6 months not like 1 year in the UK, so try buying a newer car if u can.

we charge $20 for trailer/caravan/horsefloat etc etc warrants at our garage. like cars, trailers under 6 yrs of age only have to be inspected every year-afer that its every 6 months.

after 3yrs i am still amazed at some of the homemade trailer contraptions we get through the door

not too sure of how much trailer rego is as i have resisted all temptation to get one-but the day draws near i'm afraid. its not much though.
