Pastime. Not past time. Although in times past people also enjoyed sport. Sorry guys. Kinda funny when we're talking about education though, hey?

Just nitpicky because you did not like the post content from that BE user.
You could have elected to pick on TommyLuck also for his use of "it's self" instead of "itself " within his post.
Understand from this that I am very adverse to posters trying to insidiously sideswipe on other posters because of their use of English language. We ALL make mistakes in the written word.
You actually need to re-read the post. Kodachrome stated it was a 'devil advocate ' post.
The subject is about raising children in NZ. Maybe it is more about how expats, where both parents are ex-pats , feel about their choices in raising their children In New Zealand and so somewhere other than their 'home' country, wherever that may be.

Re: Raising kids in New Zealand
My kiwi husband misses the sport centred socialising that is available in NZ. Ours do a lot of sport here and are in various clubs and out in all weathers, but if I wasn't married to him maybe I wouldn't be out there on a Friday night watching as the astro turf freezes before our eyes with the poor children still playing on!
However. they love the sport and we manage a very outdoor life style in the north of England, lots of camping, tramping, fishing and sport, we all possess very good thermals and waterproofs, it would probably much nicer in a more clement climate, but we still have fun. Ironically, the one set of our friends who were as keen on the outdoors as us have emigrated to...........New Zealand!
We have some friends who have a very active life in a non-dom church over here which has lots of activities for kids of all ages, teenages groups over the weekend which are packed, pot luck suppers, and loads of events - he reckoned it was the nearest he's come to the equivalent of NZ sports clubs over here. We're not religious, so it's not for us, but it makes him miss the sports set up in NZ, he believes it's one of the things that keeps children children longer.
