Re the following major Public Hospitals can people please suggest their experiences or knowledge about which ones they may consider good and maybe not so good and of course why?
Auckland City
Middlemore

North Shore
Starship Childrens (part of Auckland city)

Also very interested to hear about any recommendations for any doctors practices in the Howick vicinity?

Hi, sorry cant help with the hospital question but if you use this link http://www.easthealth.co.nz/index.ph..._home&itemid=1 you can find a list of the doctors surgeries in the East Health Trust. If you register with one of the surgeries you get susidised fees and prescriptions. You will also find a list of subsidised doctors fees there too. Hope this helps, Carol.

Hiya... have used Eastcare at Botany.... very good.

Only experience I have of Middlemore is having my baby there. I have to say the staff were excellent, I had a planned c-section back in January there, everyone was so professional and friendly....cannot praise them enough! So much different to the experience back in England.... where it was so bad I swore Id never have another baby!

Adventurer I have worked as a theatre nurse at Auckland, North Shore and Middlemore Hospital over the years. 20 years of my theatre experience was at Middlemore and in my opinion that is THE hospital in Auckland. Because it is a plastic surgical, maxillofacial, orthopeadic and has a major burns unit it does a great deal of the acute work in the region.

Middlemore is known internationally for its work in orthopaedics, burns and spinal injury rehabilitation. Other specialist services include neonatal intensive care, renal dialysis, plastics, reconstructive and maxillofacial surgery together with general surgery, medicine, acute care, paediatric, emergency care and mental health.

Auckland is the "glamour hospital" in the region because it is near Auckland city but expertise and experience wise you wont beat Middlemore.

I concur, though I'm prejudiced, my sister works in Middlemore.

I start at Auckland City in the New Year, can't believe I'm gonna be glamorous

tell you what - take some breadcrumbs with you for the first few days - so you can find your way back to where you started OMG - it's HUGE. My MIL had an operation there last week and it just blew me away. Admittedly, I've lived a fairly sheltered life with regards to hospitals but I've never seen one so big

She was also in North Shore hospital for 3 weeks and the staff were lovely and the care fantastic.
