Default Possible move in 2019 - Advice & Recommendations

Hi All,
I may have a job opportunity coming up in the new year which would mean a move to Auckland. I’ve never been before but this doesn’t worry me (I moved to Dubai with limited knowledge of the place) so I wanted to see if anyone had made the move without visiting in advance? I can do plenty of research but I always like to go on personal recommendations! One of my main points would be relocating my dog, any help on that front would be much appreciated.
Thanks for reading my message and hopefully some of you can give me some good tips.
Thanks! 😊

Welcome to BE klw77. I moved out in 2005 without ever having been to NZ before, OH had lived in Christchurch for 4 years previously. We are approx 40km north of Auckland on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula.
Where to live will depend on where you are based for work. Auckland traffic is not good at peak times and those peak times have certainly increased since we first arrived. OH used to work in the CBD and travelled in via ferry most days, he works from home now.
Renting with a dog can be challenging but not impossible. You'll probably have to pay an increased bond and commit to a thorough carpet clean when you vacate. There are restrictions on when and where you can walk your dog on Auckland beaches and Dept. of Conservation land. You'll also have to register your dog with Auckland council.
I quite like Auckland, although I'm over living in NZ and have been for some time. I think it's a great country to experience for a while, some stunning scenery and a lot to do in the city. If you accept that there's not much in the way of history to keep you enthralled for long, you'll be fine!!!
Make sure your job is well paid because it's an expensive place to live, see the Cucumber thread for the lowdown on food prices.

The more information you provide us with then the more we can help you. Best wishes.
