Default Pony club in New Zealand?

Hi there,

We are likely to move out in Dec, all being well with house sale ( married to a kiwi so happily no visa issues!!) and hope to settle in Rangiora, Christchurch. In Scotland we have a wonderful 12.2 palomino pony and attend our local pony club, local shows etc. My daughters 7 & 10 share the pony although eldest daughter has recently been riding a 13hh welsh section B show pony, more flashy & forward going. They are doing really well with riding and elder is currently competing in novice classes & team jumping up to 85cm. Is any-one involved in clubs in N.Z. I'd imagine there must be a lot of pony club activities and we will be looking to buy/loan pony/ies when we come out. I look at trademe any other good sites? We paid £2500 for our pony here and would'nt want to be spending more than that in N.Z.is this feasible?

Not sure about your question, but you'll find most horses stay out all year and there's far less mud than in the UK !

In general I believe it is cheaper to have a horse out here (no stabling costs etc). Lot's of people have them. Look on Trademe.co.nz. You will find some for various diferent ages/prices (and some just looking to be re-homed).
Will you have a place with it's own paddock?
Quite often you find you can move horses around to graze in friends/aquiantances paddocks and then you can return the favour later in the year etc.
Hay has just gotten in about 6 weeks ago so it would be a good time to buy some now before the cost goes up in winter.

Hi - I just introduced my three kids to horse riding through a friend who works as a riding instructor here in Chch. The school has had amazing sucess with the disabled, and now the owner is starting weekend sleep-over courses at her farm, out past Amberly. I bring this up, because I went out and stayed on the farm with my kids and it was fantastic. Everyone had to work very hard - horses require loads of care from currying to shoveling :-). They collapsed in bed at the end of the day, and couldn't wait to get back at it in the morning. It couldn't have been healthier (or cheaper!). They have lots of ponies, so some deal could probably be done with them, cheaper than buying/looking after your own.

I was going to suggest SarahB too, if you find her member status you may be best to email her incase she doesn't have the PM to email notification system set up.
