Nz Tv
So I have been reading that everyone has SKY and that NZ tv is rubbish! Is that right?
What kind of channels do you get over there with Sky? Can you get sports? eg UK Rugby? Are there any american programmes like ER, Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy???
Also everyones saying they spend more time outdoors...when do you watch TV????
Is life in NZ as backward as everyone says...slow, laid back, fun?

Uh...we only get the free to air channels TV1, TV2, TV3, Prime, Maori, and C4. The State broadcaster TV1 seems to specialise in dreadful British crud like Coronation Street while TV2 broadcasts terrible American shows. TV3 leans heavily towards outdated American stuff. Prime and Maori I rarely watch so I don't know (actually I rarely watch TV, full stop).
As for the news, I think TV3 news is a bit better than TV1. So yeah. New Zealand is a good place to break a TV addiction.

Can you use a UK tv over there? or do you need to get a new tv? It sounds like we'll be able to leave it here, and not get another one?
Excellent! thumbsup to NZ tv for that one!

that's correct, I've been reliably informed on several occasions much to my wifes delight that my wide screen(or in that matter any other UK TV) wont work in NZ something to do with transmission.:curse:
I'll just have to buy an LCD one there then, me thinks! hahaha

You asked about Greys, Housewives, ER - yep we get the lot here plus lots more of that sort of thing. So if your into your American programmes, which some of us are, myself included then not a problem. If you like your good ol' English programmes then not so lucky. We get the odd thing but not a lot. Not enough that I would like anyway. Yep we do get Coro, thankfully.
As for the rugby, well obviously theres plenty of NZ rugby. The only English rugby I think your likely to see is the Six Nations and that I think, (although not 100% sure so might need to check this out) will be on the rugby channel so you will have to pay extra for that if you get Sky.
I dont think its that bad to be honest. I did when I first came over but after being here five years, you get used to it.

Re: Nz Tv
Sorry to disappoint your wife but we brought our widescreen TV over and it works fine although you have to run it through Sky (or maybe Freeview will work too now that that's been launched). Would suggest if you're shipping electrical goods that you look into getting mechanical and electrical derangement clauses added to your insurance (adds a bit to the price though but we found it worthwhile)

Hey zigzag, I've just finished watching the Guinness Premiership semis and the Heineken cup is all on here. Most of the premiership rugby matches are on, plus H-cup, 6 Nations, sevens, Super 14, NPC. Its rugby heaven here mate. And the Guinness Premiership is every bit as good as the Super 14 - don't let the Kiws tell you otherwise, mind you plenty of Kiwis play up there too!
