I have a cousin coming over on Dec 28th for 10ish days & they want to do both Islands

I have to work until Dec 30th, so thought we could catch the overlander on NYE down to Wellington.

I can get very good rates in Wellington. Go out for dinner & celebrate the new year... On NewYears day & 2nd we would go out n about discovering the bottom of the North Island...

Then they move on to do their own things in the South Island... Me come back up to work

Or we can fly to CHCH (cheap hotel again) & do similar from CHCH...

What you think??

In my mind no contest. New year in Wellington will be wicked courtney place will be rocking and the atmosphere great. In Christchurch it will kick off and if your unlucky you will be in wrong place at wrong time. Sure that Christchurch could be good but Wellington will be good. Tin hat time.

I would suggest planning something though. Have an idea about places you like or don't like and see if they have anything on for New Years Eve.

Otherwise you will just end up in a pub. Which is often fine, but if it's not one ya like you just have 18 year olds decked out in the House of Glasson throwing up their Bicardi Breezers on you.

And that's just the Boys.

Again, that might be fine. But it's probably better to plan

I'm thinking of Wellington btw. No idea about Christchurch.

I spent last NYE in Christchurch. There was a band in the square and fireworks-though don't remember much of it as I was mostly in the pub . We ventured out at midnight and then went back again. So can't help much. Seemed a good natured crowd in my beer fuelled state
With enough to drink it'll be good wherever you are
