It can go from boom to bust in no time and what we adults think are opportunities, might not be the opportunities for them.
and looking ahead whichever country chosen Australia or NZ assuming the bilateral agreements in place continue for work and settlement the kids will have opportunities in both countries. Although personal view does seem easier currently to come from Australia to NZ than the other way.

I had a rude to the point of bullying boss here in NZ who got bitten by a white tail spider.

It's ok, the spider survived without injury.

Also, the guys replacing our front garden fence carefully rehomed the one or two weta's from the old fence into our tree fern without injury to either party.

I have seen plenty of whitetails and have also been bitten by one; it's not like they are rare but if anyone is going to spot the creepy crawlies or be bitten it will be me. The bite I had was like the kick from a horse and very painful for several days.
