Go for it...this is a great place to let off steam!!!!!
I don't understand it....after a recent 2nd interview, I was so confident that I would get it....I was flabbergasted when I got a call saying "sorry you have been unsuccessful...the calibre of applicants was so high"....come off it I am in a little ol'rural SI town..
.I had all the necessary requirements for the job..perhaps that's why I didn't get it.....maybe I was a threat...
I have even considered toning down my CV down...but why should I...
.I've thought of not saying I'm a counsellor. But then why should we hide all the qualifications we have. It's bloody hard returning to Uni after having kids.
so this leads us back to my first original question. Do employers favour local kiwis over other applicants? We probably will never get the true answer.

We all seem to have the same in common... no not our fantastic sense of humour...
the fact that we keep getting turned down for jobs we can do quite easily. I have applied for support workers jobs that require no formal qualifications, just experience working with people with addictions or suicidal tendencies. I have counselled such clients for years now. I specialise in suicide and yet cannot get a support workers role working underneath a counsellor. I get the old e-mail every time... "sorry you have not been successful on this occasion. We have had people apply with more experience and qualifications than yourself". Its garbage.
Sorry Im on a rant. Had a bad couple of days.

Having come from a country where hoisting the Union Jack can be deemed racist, as can referring to oneself as English; it's a novelty to live somewhere so patriotic (if that's the word?). I think people here are perhaps hard wired to support the New Zealander and that's not intended as a dig or moan.

Havong lived here for over years I do see what you mean but it doesn't help those wishing to find gainful employment.
For myself , I was kind to myself about this sort of thing and kind of gave up when I couldn't even get a local job cleaning the local mall loos and that was even after being recommended by a Kiwi & having stepped in for over 5 years to do the job when needed. It went to a Kiwi who had never cleaned the loos. Mentals
