My job hunt so far!

Re: My job hunt so far!
Oh no - just caught up with your job situation. Sorry you didn't get it. Your work experience sounds excellent.
Please don't let it get you down. Easier said than done, I know. But something will come along. It's not a reflection on you at all, it is a tough market out there at the moment...especially as you know in provincial New Zealand. Keep on battering away at it, you'll get there!! Will keep all fingers and toes crossed for you.

Re: My job hunt so far!
Secretarial/admin/personal assistant is what I'm into. I've worked in Childrens Services in Britain as a Service Support Assistant. Prior to that I was in various temporary roles for a few years from covering the phone for an afternoon while the team was in a team meeting to P.A. to the Director of a property company. All from various temporary employment agencies. Some 'temp' jobs lasted eighteen months, to two years.
I've worked for City Care in Christchurch in an administrative role. I've worked for a local authority near Wanganui as a temporary Project Administrator on an infrastructure project.
I've been interviewed and been turned down for various admin roles this year. It's rare to get feedback on my interview performance. Just the bog standard, 'not successful on this occasion' e-mail or phone call or letter. If they can be bothered to let me know of the outcome at all.
So, I'll continue to look for admin jobs of from Admin Assistant to Personal Assistant via admin support roles. I'll do a modest admin job or I'll step up to the plate and do a more sophisticated role. I just get pipped to the post again and again.
Employment agencies on the North Island ? Don't go there. No, really, please DON'T.

Forget the location, imagine you were able to work from home

and I'd have liked to have owned a cattery.
Snapshot. Not making light at all. Not for me anyway. Just that RedDragon provoked a bit of thought there. Reminded me of past thoughts.

Re: My job hunt so far!
I too have been turned down for a jobs recently..in the same line of work...I wonder if its my age? 44 isn't too old is it?
I have failed to get interviews that I have the appropriate experience even with the same accounts software package & strengths as per there advert, and have even used the words "maturity" in the ad...I maybe paranoid but I wonder if its because I am not local!!!!
I may take off my age & the bit in my intro letter that says I can legally work in NZ & see what happens...
My situ is diff to yours SNAPSHOT in the fact that I do have a job, but want FT work so I can start saving!!!!
Good luck with your search...don't give up....just keep on plugging away...
REDDRAGON: my ideal job would be to have a home based business that allowed me to live anywhere in the world.....that would be great!!!

I have sometimes let my paranoia about that get the better of me, but, no it isn't that. I just get pipped to the post again and again. (Probably by a local candidate but in reality I'll never know)

I have applied for support workers jobs that require no formal qualifications, just experience working with people with addictions or suicidal tendencies. I have counselled such clients for years now. I specialise in suicide and yet cannot get a support workers role working underneath a counsellor.
I get the old e-mail every time... "sorry you have not been successful on this occasion. We have had people apply with more experience and qualifications than yourself". Its garbage.
Sorry Im on a rant. Had a bad couple of days.

I don't understand it....after a recent 2nd interview, I was so confident that I would get it....I was flabbergasted when I got a call saying "sorry you have been unsuccessful...the calibre of applicants was so high"....come off it I am in a little ol'rural SI town...I had all the necessary requirements for the job..perhaps that's why I didn't get it.....maybe I was a threat...
I have even considered toning down my CV down...but why should I....
