Thanks for the supporting comments everyone.

We hadn't planned to live rural initially. We were trying to get a rental property in town (see another post ) but the rental agents were so unhelpful we looked further afield and got a really nice place out of town. It has a rural feel and a country view, but we are still only 2 minutes to the motorway.

Despite all of the hardships of trying to get settled we all really love it here.

Just a quick update. We had the MAF inspection on Tuesday and all went well. The weeks of cleaning before we left paid off.

We ended up paying the $850 for TMC to unload and reload our goods for the MAF inspection. We moaned and complained to every party in the moving chain but none of them would budge. I can see TMC's point but I just wish this was either built into our original quote or we were warned up front. Feedback WILL be given to John Masons.

Our goods were delivered yesterday (Thursday). The three guys who unloaded the container were excellent. We had 311 items to unload and many of them were very heavy. These guys were immensely strong and very helpful.

It was soooo good to sleep in our own bed last night.

The first thing the kids have done when they got up this morning is dive straight into their boxes. It really is like Xmas all over again for them.

Thanks for the warning anyway... I'll be making sure I quiz my movers closely over potential extra charges at the NZ end.

You've also given me an idea I think I'll get someone else to pack my stuff so I can get nice surprises when I get there too
