Just a general thought. How much capital did you have when you moved from Britain to New Zealand. Realistically how much would someone need to have a good chance of having a decent lifestyle?

looking at whether we can financially realistically move without having to work all the hours god sends.

thanks

No easy answer here - it really depends on a number of factors.

How about some info like where in NZ you are looking at, what job you do, will you need a mortgage in NZ?

Definitely agree it depends. We came out with about GBP5,000, but had a GBP income that continued until the recession hit.

We were desperate to get out of the UK, after arriving back from Mexico with no savings. It was close to Christmas so we waited it out with family saving everything we could over about 12 weeks. Initially we bought a car for NZ$2,000 and spent about NZ$2000 on furniture. We replaced everything we bought with new expensive things, but only once our NZ income could justify it.

So, basically it can be done as expensively or inexpensively as you like!
