Hi

We are settling into Wellington now, was a bit of a shock to the system after three years in Auckland. Wellington is much more of a city, the bars and restaurants in Auckland CBD are not so good. However, it is much warmer in Auckland and the beaches are better so it depends what you are after. Auckland is really sprawled out so there is not much in the centre.

We moved to Wellington for work as we found more work here but I suspose it depends on what type of thing you do.

We lived up in Gulf Harbour, lovely place, but a bit of a commute. It sounds like you like living in the City so there are not so much city living in Auckland. A lot of people live on the North Shore and commute in. When are you moving?

Hi,
We are in the process of applying for residency and hope to be over in Wellington in Aug/Sept. We will need to rent somewhere furnished for the few months before our container arrives. Do any of you have any agents/advice we could use to secure us somewhere to live initially?
Any help advice would be very welcome!
We are in our late 40's, no children and would love to meet up/make contacts with ex-pats when we arrive too.

Sue & Andy

Hi Sue and Jake

Do you know which part of Wellington you want to live in? We live on the Kapiti Coast and commute in which is 50 mins by train. We like living by the beach and don't mind the commute and it is warmer here than Wellington. I can give you advice on this area but you may want to live closer into Welly, especially if you don't want a commute. It all depends on what you are looking for.

Hi,

There are furnished apartments in Wellington that some people posting here have stayed at. We actually lived in the backpackers at Plimmerton for seven weeks until our furniture arrived.

We also arrived in September and that is just early enough to get the cheaper off-season weekly rates.

One thing you will need to be aware of is the Rugby World cup. Short term accomodation may be in shorter supply than normal next September.

Red face

Hi Teresa
Thanks for your response. No we are not sure yet where in Wellington we want to live, having never been there. We are hoping Andy gets a job offer first and then we shall come over, but if not we will have to come over for a few weeks and see if he can secure a job.
Really just researching at the moment, but any advice would be great!
Thanks
Sue & Andy

Thanks John, We will have to take that into account! Will have a look at Plimmerton on the net.

Hi

The train line has just expanded to Waikaine, it takes about 60 mins to get to the centre of Wellington.

Kapiti Coast is a bit warmer than Wellington,it doesn't have the cold wind. It can be a bit quiet here as opposed to all the pubs and restaurants in Wellington - it all depends what you are after. We like it here and don't mind the commute.

Waikaine is a lot smaller than P'ram but has a really nice feel to it. It all depends on what you are after. I have heard they have a really good Indian restaurant but I haven't tried it yet

Hi Sue & Andy

we stayed in plimmerton when we first arrived la st -not the backpackers but it is in a nice spot and plimmerton is only 30 mins by train into welly. We managed to get a temp private fully furnished let : check out http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/re...ent/wellington and you could also look at www.bookabach.co.nz as they may do some deals on long term lets.

plimmerton is lovely place to stay if you want any info on good/bad places to live around wellington or any other info on the move in general just get in touch, good luck with it all
