We are at a loss to which category our jobs come under, OH is a graduate of Forensic Biology and my line of work is with the Elderly and Childcare. I am worried, that jobs I am qualified to do here in the UK wont be recognisable in NZ, any suggestions??

If you look at the nz immigration website theres lots of info on the professions/jobs which they have a shortage of people for and also i think you can look at qualifications which are recognised. those which are not recognised i think you can have them assessed......may be wrong but i'm sure someone else may have more knowledge!!??

Questions first to help us answer best we can.

What is your OH's occupation ?
Does he work in a job that matches his degree ?

What are your quals ?
Your occupation?
Are you a manager?

As you may have realised , NZIS set standards for each occupation and one needs to match to that.
With the degree , he could claim points for that depending on what and where he gained the degree.

If he would be main principle for your application, then how you are qualified may not matter so very much for the purpose of PR. However, as you say, if your particular quals aren't understood , shall we say, by those that could employ you in NZ you may find yourself needing to upskill to an NZ standard to get the work.

Anyway, let us know a bit more if that's OK with you and we'll all see if we can help a little

Ok...I will try and explain more!
My OH has a few weeks left till the end of his university course, so has not yet gained any work experience in his area of work.
My qualifications were achieved a number of years ago, I have a Family and community care with a City & Guilds Certificate. I also have a substantial years work experience working with the elderly and also with Pre-schoolchildren...I have NO Managerial experience
My OH will be the one that is main principle for our application.
Hope this helps.
Nic
