What they say to gain voters is different to what they really believe and want.

Last time I posted a similar reply in TIO, I received nasty and racist PMs and I cant be bothered with it to be honest.
When my husband was a chef in Devon, there was a scottish bloke who was a fully paid up supporter of the BNP.
He came into the pub and was really staring at him (i was there). He turned round and said 'You f%cking Arabs, taking our jobs and women, you make me sick'
Hubby replied 'Can you cook?'
Bloke replied 'No I cant'
To which hubby said 'Well piss off then'
This bloke had been getting the dole for years and had by his own admission, moved to Devon to 'sign on in the sun'.
He was continually nasty to my husband and even said 'I bet you beat your wife'.
Funny thing was, he was an alcoholic with a reputation for giving women a slap.
My husband has never claimed benefits and always got employment on his own merits.
The thing is though, with regards to Thailand, I was so shocked when this thai bloke who had 2 little boys to hire and said that the English men were his best customers.
I mean, what can you say to that.
Sorry for sounding defensive Ned, its just we have taken our share of racism and accusations.
I just get upset with it I suppose.

How can we have respect for Islam when we are too fearful to criticise it?
Muriel Gray on the fury over the Muhammed cartoons
One of the biggest misunderstandings of the crisis caused by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten printing cartoons of Muhammed is that the paper was merely satirising Islam and hadn’t realised that any image of the prophet, insulting or respectful, is utterly taboo to Muslims. This is quite wrong.
The incident arose from the fact that an author of a children’s book about the life of Muhammed wanted it illustrated but couldn’t find any artist brave enough to risk offending those who currently express their offence by murdering the offender. Hence in a deliberate test of freedom of speech, the newspaper, not Muslim and therefore not bound by this taboo, sought artists willing to draw Muhammed. The mild satire on the state of Islamic jihad was incidental.

Well said ADVENTURER, and as for waiting for all this hatred to end,I think it will get much worse before it gets better.
I think that everyone should be allowed freedom of speech !!!!! but sad to say I think this is being taken away from christains around the world, and now feel we must take some sort of stand to be allowed to have OUR SAY,before it's to late.

totally agree im sick of do gooders bleating on about islam and multicultural etc, the point is muslims hate westerners and all we beleive in it is brainwashed into them from an early age. its about time that all this protesting in the streets and burning buildings and that one handed one eyed tosser preaching hatred was stopped .we shouldnt take this s@@t shoot them in the streets when this happens .wake up do gooders, everywhere theres muslims theres trouble there ignorant arrogant people [with a few exceptions] ive worked with them they look down on women especially white women they talk gibberish in front of you before you do gooders come back with responses try living in towns where they are taking over peddling drugs running prostitutes etc and you would have a different view. why should we change things like black board to chalk board if they dont like it tough s@@t get used to it .the planes fly back to these countries if they dont like the way we do stuff in the uk :scared:

I've read all of the entries on this thread about the recent events surrounding the pictures in the papers, and obviously seen all the news coverage. I began thinking these pictures must be really bad and insulting, so i did a google search, it took some finding but the link below should take you there. hopefully it will work because i've not done a link like this before. don't worry the pictures are not at all offensive or vulgar. i think they need to get a sense of humour transplant

I myself have been guilty of generalizing about Arab people, much to my own disgust. Back in Sept 01 my son was on one of the first flights out of the US after 9/11 & I dont mind admitting I was terrified of putting him on that plane. While waiting at the very heavily armed airport to see him off there were several Muslims waiting to board planes & I ashamedly said to my husband "Please dont let them be on Matts flight" Im sure I wasnt alone in thinking this way either but its still no excuse for my ignorance. Thankfully I know better now but yes I admit I still look at these people a little cautiously when I myself am about to board a plane in this country. I do feel bad for people like Professional Princess who has obviously found herself a good man but has had to suffer at peoples ignorance. I know they arent all bad but sometimes I cant stop myself from generalising no matter how hard I try.
I shall keep reading this post with interest as I know I will learn things I dont know.

This thread is really interesting, I'm getting a real insight into how people view whole "cultures" and "religions" and simply boxing whole races and referring to "them" ......
Looking back 10 or 15 years ago - I wonder how some of you would have referred to "those extremists" who happened to reside in the north of ireland ??? And would everyone therefore who happened to be of a particular religion residing in this part of the united kingdom be a "terrorist" and a "them" ????
