Insurance (Again) - How Many Went Uninsured?

Re: Insurance (Again) - How Many Went Uninsured?
Don't insure. First of all your container should not be on the deck of the ship, so it is not going overboard. The cost of the insurance will be greater than the repair or replacement of any perticular damaged item. The packing is done very well, loaded to container ncely and nicely unloaded at your new place. We had no damage. Save the money. besides, if something really precious is damaged, you won't be ablke to replace it anyway.

I understand where you are comong from. Our container had about $90,000 NZ in it. My wife was concerned about not going insured, but in checking with Crown on their claims expeereience and where in the ship the contianer is we decided that no insurance was best and helped us keep the cost down. You are right though, you need to be comfortable and then not worry about it. To each his own.
Consider the Heart Beat Episode where after finally making it Vernon decides to join Lloyds. He loses the whole ball of wax.

Interesting, Crown won't put your container on deck. There can be water that enters the ship and the container is not water proof. I would be very reluctant to use a shipper that would put your container on the deck.

I love crown
they are great. Used them to move from UK to NZ and then just as we were trying to save money used another company NZ vanlines back to the UK. They were not so good. in fact they were crap.
