Default Importing a motorbike

Hi all,

Good to see that we now have a NZ only forum (it's been a while since I've been on here!)

Had our PR approved passports back this week and intend to leave for NZ at the end of July.

Intended to buy my mates bike to ship over with us - 1997 ZX-6. Only paying £1700 for it which is a mates good price!

I could buy in NZ but I know the bikes history and as it's my best mates it hold sentimental value to me. However I'm getting concerned and confused about the cost of actually putting it on the road in NZ. Does anyone have experience of this and a breakdown of costs/time to do this? I know that I'll have to pay GST as I'll not have owned it for over 12 months, but what about all the MAF, compliance, registration, shipping costs and insurance? i Iintend to ship it in the container with all the house stuff. As I'm buying it privately do I need a valutaion/compliance certificate done here in the UK?

So many questions I know, but if anyone can give me a definate answer or link to someone who knows then I'd be eternally gratefull. Loads of people have done this so it can't be too difficult.

Cheers
Paul

Check out the following:

When I imported my bike, I pulled it to bits, that way it was "motorcycle parts" as opposed to a motorcycle... less duty etc
