Hello all,,

first post on the site and was wondering if anyone could help me out with some information,,i'm a prison officer and was wondering is that a skill required in New Zealand which would help me be able to emigrate?

Many moons ago or well October anyway, there was an advert in the local wrag for Prison Officers, which I emailed to another prospective immigrant. The advert was...

'We are seeking mature, confident, exceptional people to appoint as Corrections Officers within the Wellington Region.

The role of corrections officer involves working with offenders in a secure environment where staff are required to assume a leadership role that positively influences those in custody.

Suitable applicants will:

Have a high level of personal standards and an ablity to apply these in a correctional centre setting;

Pursue a fit and healthy lifestyle;

Have flair, creativity, strength of character and integrity;

Sense of fairness and a caring attitude that enables effective management of those in our care;

Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Departments partnership responsibilities under treaty of Waitangi and the aspirations of Maori people.

The ob of corrections officer requires someone with maturity, life experience and the ability to deal with a variety of people in a calm, assured manner. Corrections Officers are no longer turnkeys, they are dedicated professionals working in a challenging field.

A comprehensive induction and initial basic training course is provided for those applicants who meet the employment requirements. This includes a criminal convictions check. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work towards the NZQA Certificate in Offender Management.

Appointment is on a regional basis and employees may be required to work at any of three sites within the wellington region, Arohata Women's prison in Tawa, Rimutaka Prison in Upper Hutt or Wellington Prison in Miramar.

Hi Alex,

Where do you work?

Work for the service myself (Gartree) Hubby and I are off to work for the Dept of Corrections and they always seem to want more people.

There are several Prison Officers who post/have post on here so do a search of the forum and they should pop up!

The Department of Corrections website also lists all available posts in NZ...have just looked and recruitment drive is still ongoing:
