Moving over to Tauranga from Uk on 4th October with two kids - boy who will be 2 in December and girl who will be 5 in October. My husband is a Kiwi but from Napier so doesnt know anyone in the area and hasnt lived in New Zealand for 10 years.
Would love to come to your meet up if that is ok

How old are your kids? Do you know where in Tauranga you are going to live? We are going to try and find something to rent in Matua but not sure how easy that is looking at the internet doesnt seem to be much there but lots for sale and NZD/GBP going in our favour.

OK ....let's stop talking about what a good idea it is and get down to some serious planning. I reckon that the 3rd week in November would be a goo date to start with. We will be back from UK, Heleninuk will be here and settled and, hoefully we will get a full turn out!
The Friday night is the 16th November and we could meet up in either the Mount or in The Strand. From Papamoa they are a similar distance so I would propose The Starnd and the Friday night rather than the Saturday.
Please feel free to agree/disagree as you see fit. Can you please PM me or email me if you are planning to attend so that I can judge numbers.
I look forward to hearing from you
Paul

Our 'kids' are 18 and 21! Just seen 18 yr old off at Heathrow at 5am! She's visiting friends in Germany then doing interail to Italy- it's her gap year! 21 yr old is at uni in Sheffield so not coming with us to NZ.
We have booked a bach in Mount Manganui for 8 weeks then will look for unfurnished house in Tauranga area- out of town centre -Bethlehem or Omokoroa looked good.
hi am loolah- how are you today? feeling better?

Am slowly losing voice, which obviously is a huge bonus to Hubby!! I think I sound sexy in an Eartha Kitt stylie?! Just on phone to brother in Poland ... HOW MUCH??!!
Must email you potential job for Peter, been hanging around my desk for weeks and keep forgetting. Has he had anything yet? T-shirts on the beach walking dogs this afternoon. Don't know but would guess 18-20 degrees!

Hubby says " is the job t- shirts on beach & walking dogs?" If so he's up for it! If not send said potential job and he'll take a look and thank you for thinking of him ( he rather fancies 2 months off work though!)
Yes I was checking weather on NZ herald just now and noticed Tauranga had 18c today- not bad - warmer than here!

Hi Helen,
You will love Mount Maunganui, just the right amount of shops/ cafe`s/ bars and of coarse perfect for every kind of water sport ever invented. Its a real happening place during the summer. Good choice.
Bethlehem is a fast growing place with new houses galore and a great new shopping centre that opens in the next few months. It does have a busy road that passes through it though but all in all it would be a great place to live.
Omokoroa is very nice but a little isolated. There isn`t much in the way of shops as yet but I know that a lot of the land has been set aside as commercial but I dont think this will happen for a few years. Its very scenic but feels like quite a long drive to anywhere. Just my opinion.
You`ll be suprised at the amount of pomms that are here , so dont hesitate to contact any locals when you arrive.
In the mean time ,,,,enjoy.

Hi ya
We used to live in papamoa, moved there orginally in Dec 05 when we first came over (OH - Kiwi) now we live in Auckland, yes we have become short term Jaffa's, we go back home in Jan/Feb
Found it difficult to meet 40 something, no children couples, although the beach is lovely.
Also found the area a little too clicky for my liking, even though I am a small village country girl from the UK.
Auckland has better job opportunities, better shopping, and we live about 40 mins out of centre Auckland in the rural area of Sth East.
Suggestions would be to join clubs, have kids to meet parents through schools, you are right though that there is a lot of English in Papamoa.

I shall be booking shopping weekend to Auckland as I do miss retail therapy!!!
When you say you're "going home" in Jan/Feb where do you mean?

It looks like we have a quorum for the 16th November!
So...everyone find your diary or the fridge calendar and write it in BIG RED letters!!!
As the motto for the evening I would like to suggest the same moto as the one for the Ullyses Motorbike club I belong to. It's "Growing Old Disgracefully". Prizes may be awarded to the disgraceful behaviour on the night.
One other rule ..... No cameras after the 2nd round of drinks. Pictures of me are always blurred after 2 drinks...
I'll keep you all in touch with arrangements as we get closer to the date.
Paul
