Me neither Col. I like variety in my weather . Harsh skies don't do it for me.
Yup. Woodburner lit two nights ago . Latest ever.

I'm sure some parents are getting confused with seasons and appropriate clothing. Still seeing kids walking to school in the morning in shorts, it's 6 effing degrees! Feel like driving past the school some days just to lob pairs of trousers out the window. Perhaps brekkie is porridge with a sprinkling of concrete pill, who knows...

Yes we do. Once we get going with consistently colder weather mine will be on the 'Heat' setting 21c / 22c with the timer set to go on from 7pm until 7am and just let the thermostat do its job.
One caveat to that is that we are on a Dual / Night & Day Electricity Tarriff - and power is cheaper between hours of 11pm and 7am

Certainly don't miss the inadequately insulated and poorly heated rentals that lived in the first few years here. Sure Auckland has mild winters, but often it felt colder in that out

Central heating (sorry) kicked-in this morning in Manchester, UK in a well insulated (sorry) semi. Confirming my suspicion that an Auckland winter is not that dissimilar to a Manchester summer.

It was cold yesterday wasn't it! I'm Berkshire so muuuuch further south and we had to put the heating on for a few hours last night... it was light at 9.30pm but only 6 degrees!! Back to a balmy 17degrees today and some sun... oh how my standards of a nice day have lowered lol

C'mon Munchkjn, it can't be that bad in Manchester?????????????? I'm over 500 km further West and have experienced pleasant dry weather this month. Yesterday was 18c and the thermometer in back garden (no it isn't broken) showed 29 in the sun. OK, overcast today and cooler but you certainly don't need heating. Maybe you need to start putting on the shorts earlier

I have an Irish friend in Aucks - horses mouth and all that!
Edit: Just read the bit about the 29C in the sun in Ireland. Think you must be in an alternate universe there pal! My Irish Pal is from Cork and he is loving Winter in Aucks. Still wearing the shorts. It was properly cold here yesterday, everyone in Manc is wearing coats and cardies and our heating is on a thermostat.

Just back from Oxfordshire where it is cold, certainly in the evenings, so CH on and running. One good day (BBQ weather) in 2 weeks.
Here (Kerikeri) it is polo shirt weather during the day and jersey or fleece during evenings (no heating on) winter duvet goes on tomorrow :-)

The thermometer must be placed in the shade. If you put your thermometer in full sunlight, direct radiation from the sun is going to result in a temperature higher than what it should be.
Hate to think what NZ Ozone hole sun would do to a mercury thermometer...

I know he doesn't like Manchester, but I can't believe it's so cold you'd need central heating on and that you don't get any summer at all
Even today it was cooler here and we currently have 21 degrees inside a detached house.
Of course it is milder in Auckland, but that it's raining all year in Manchester Last year was probably bad everywhere in the UK compared to 2014, but Manchester still only gets 3-5 days more rain than Auckland and my friends don't complain it rains non stop in Auckland.
