But I think a lot of that is down to the generations changing so much now. I think society accepts older people more now and you aren't expected to conform as people used to.

Haha.... its my birthday today and lets just say I am over 40!
I have just started doing long distance Endurance rides on my horse..... I think I shouldve taken the sport up before now!! OMG did I hurt the other week after the first ride!!! I rode 15k's at canter through Woodhill forest... my horse got excited and pulled me round the whole way like a steam train! We made it to the end in one piece .... he only just passed the vetting as his heart rate was still pretty high.... good job they didnt take mine!! I had to run down a field and trot him up for the vet.... I could hardly move!! lol
The next day my OH had to take a day off work as I could hardly move!! I walked like John Wayne for about a week.... sitting down onto the loo made me cry out loud! lol.... in the end I sprained all 8 fingers, my right wrist... both knees fell apart (felt like it anyway!).....my bad ankle hurt me for ages and every single muscle in my legs refused to work anymore!
So yeah I have taken up Endurance Riding in my 40s!! Im bloody mad but was it worth it? You bet!!!... Ive not had as much fun in ages and cant wait for the next ride!!! All that pain for a certificate and a piece of ribbon but Im as proud as anything of both myself and a brave horsie who proved to me hes not just a pretty face!

I wonder if people say that because at that point children tend to be a little older. Tonight I'm knackered and it's a tiring term in front and I'm thinking perhaps life begins when the kids leave home ...
