Default Diabetics

We are planning to move to NZ but my wife is a type 1 diabetic. She is very healthy not over weight and is in full control of her blood sugars. Does anyone know if being diabetic will affect our chances??

We moved over 6 months ago and I'm a t1 (20 years). In my experience I had a 5 month old during the medicals so my Hba1c was 7.9 (due to me bf'ing). They ask for it to be between 4 and 6.5%. Because mine was slightly higher I had to get a report from my endo at the hospital to say that I was healthy and had no complications due to the diabetes - this was like getting blood out of a stone. I don't imagine that I would have been referred for further info if my levels were in 'their' range but who knows...perhaps they do it as standard for diabetics.

Our visa process took approx 4 months in total and was very frustrating - especially as my levels were spot on for the 2 years prior to this!

Something I would point out to you is that the medication here isn't free! I stocked up on my insulins and test strips before leaving (about 6 months supply). It can get quite pricey especially if she gets anything else (I also get pills for something else). They also use a different type of monitor here which is rubbish so make sure she brings hers with her with lots of supplies!

Good luck with the medicals.

Hi, thanks for the info her bloods are pretty well balanced, she has the occasional blip, she does the DAFNE course a few times a year.
Fingers crossed with the visas
