Have a read of this for my experience of NZ
Our experience moving to NZ 18 months in

I miss a few things from the UK- having a meaningful job whereby the industry is not working in the 1960's, using current technology at work, having actual design management processes and proper working standards at work, I miss some of my friends and family at times, I miss my daughter having a relationship with my Dad and others, I miss my warm, insulated centrally heated home that doesn't leak and get damp. Also I miss the prices of consumer items and groceries (remember Amazon and Ebay?!) and the work/life balance I had back home in the UK.

What I don't miss is the crap weather, negative people, crime rates, knife crime, the politics, Brexit, pot holes and the daily grind we'd gotten into....On that basis we have no real regrets coming out here.

Everything is swings and roundabouts and it's very much each to their own.

Living here isn't about what do you miss. We all miss things, it's about do you miss them enough to want to go home. Homesickness is a very real and powerful thing, it will get you at some point in time.

Totally agree with this. You can't really compare or waste too much time really. Better to just make the most of the many decent things about NZ and take it for what it is and if it doesn't work out is doesn't work out.

Thanks once again , for everyones help. I'm going out in September, so hopefully once I'm there it will give my some insight of what nz can offer me and my family.

Oh yes I'm a dual national ie I hold a British and south African passport. For my work Visa would I need a police clearance from both countries? I haven't been living in south africa for 12 years

Yes. You would.

You must provide police certificates if you are:
  • 17 years or older, and
  • planning to stay for more than 24 months — this includes any time you have already spent in New Zealand.
Provide police certificates from any country you:
  • are a citizen of, and
  • have lived in for more than 5 years since you turned 17.
