Chicken Saga Continues...
To those of you who were wondering what was happening with Ginga and Pex, here's the latest.......we are 99% sure Ginga is a rooster. "He's" starting to make immature crowing noises on a morning......EARLY on a morning. Both birds have long necks and "fight" with each other. We fear Pex is rooster too !!!
We have Fijian friends who are happy to take them off our hands

Do your Fijian friends want to keep them or eat them?

Re: Chicken Saga Continues...
Thanks for the update Gill. We hadn't forgotten about the plight of your chickens, Ali and I were discussing the matter the other day in the pub with Pompey Paul and Biddy. If you think you've got 2 roosters I'd say they're not worth keeping unless you want to use them as alarm clocks
I'm glad you started on the subject because I'm intensely amused by all the related advertising and links that have appeared around the theme of 'chickens'. At the top of this page there's a link to the website of a band called Rooster, some young indie band by the looks of it. I'm sure they'd find their connection with this site terribly uncool.

So much for friends taking Ginga off our hands !!!
We have been asked to "keep hold of him"....UNTIL we can FATTEN HIM UP !!!
Seems our young scrawny rooster might not have enough meat on his bones just yet !!
Spent ages this tea time psyching myself up to ring them, doing it discreetly out of ear shot of the kids."How big is it?" Well how do you describe a rooster, sort of 3-4 person portion size? About the size of a football?
The crowing is becoming a bit more confident. Both birds are going on to double rations tomorrow. Need to get Ginga to the size of a basketball ASAP !!

That's it !!! They have to go. The crowing is becoming more confident and starting earlier.
Any suggestions what we can do with them?
Don't think either of us could ring their necks !!

Set them free ( drive them to a remote location and leave them to go feral ).
Glue their flight feathers back on.
Sap their confidence by insisting that their crowing is rubbish and they have no hope of ever achieving success as roosters.
Build a soundproof coup
Leave it long enough for your neighbours to form a vigilante group and gather outside your house armed with flaming torches and pitchforks demanding that they be handed over.

Dear Gill and Rob,
I'm not sure how to break this to you ...
... this morning Pizza went out to the chicken house and came back with 12 eggs.
Maybe you would like Joshie and Elvis back when the boys are gone.

They crow even in the darkness of their coop on a morning.
Setting them free seems to be the best option. There are loads of places suitable around here. We are just too soft to do this.
The feathers have almost grown back anyway !!!
The crowing is getting better and better each day.
We would need a soundproof garden, as they now not only crow in their coop on a morning, but periodically throughout the day.
We have such lovely neighbours..... how can I keep doing this to them??

12 EGGS?, 12 EGGS? Ha...could it be that Pizza BOUGHT THEM? Very convenient that you got a dozen !!!
This is proving more and more traumatic as the time goes on.
