HI

Can someone please tell me do i need a letter from a doctor for all medication being brought into New zealand, am worried as my son is on a controlled drug, so i think i may need one but cannot seem to find any info, also want to find out if i need a letter for some of hubbys meds.

Just realised i better find out as we fly Tuesday, so i better get a move on if i do

Don't know if there is a requirement for this but I would imagine that it would be better to have a letter with you to reduce your worries & stress!.

Thanks im more worried about landing in Dubai than Nz to be honest i have a feeling they maybe on the banned list for over there, if so i have no idea what to do as my son really needs them.............help

Thought that might be what was worrying you (have been offline so wasn't too sure which way you were flying!), have you tried contacting Emirates for advice? just an idea
if you need meds for flight have you thought about re-packaging? (something like 'no-mad pack' from chemist ... oap's tend to use these so dont see it would be prob in hand luggage + letter from Dr) if in hold baggage should be ok, but I would get letter anyway ...

Am gonna ring doctors in the morning, i found on a site if drugs are on banned list if i have a letter from doctors, stating they are needed they should be ok, have also got a copy of repeat perscription so hopefully that will help. Hopefully as we are not staying in the country just passing through it wont be a problem, just dont wanna get done for having illegal drugs on me!!!
Thanks for advise might contact embassy as well just to double check tommorow, as really worried now, gave it a thought a few weeks ago then forgot again

Remembering that some of my first posts were to you & yours .... some doubts were creeping in .... now we're talking 'flights' !!! Very best wishes for your new lives in Tauranga!!.... last minute panics are the norm (I imagine!!... know they are for me ) guess its like growing old(er) ...bound to happen!!

I thinks that it would be safest to have a letter from the doctor as at least you wont have to worry about it then. Also, I think it depends what it is, eg my son has to carry an epipen with him at all times for his egg allergy. They are not keen on this in the hand luggage for several reasons.

1) It is sharp (potential weapon)
2) It is a liquid (potential explosive)
3) It is a controlled medication.

That said, we haven't had any problems on previous flights via US, Hong Kong, Singapore, NZ, UK. However, like you I am a bit concerned as we are flying back to visit the UK via an overnight stop in Korea. So far I have printed notifications off the allergy websites which I got the doctor to sign, also got a letter from the doctor and repeat prescription, I am also going to use the internet to translate the letter to Korean (and get someone to check it) just to make sure. I know I am a bit paranoid, but as a mum thats my job .

My nephew is diabetic and he has never had any problems carrying his insulin and needles with him. I'm sure that the airlines and customs must be used to dealing with these situations on a daily basis, but best to hedge your bets just in case you meet up with a 'jobs-worth'!
