bereavement flights
Hi, Does anyone know about bereavement flights or no of any cheap flight codes? I am needing to go back to the UK in the next few days as my mum has taken a turn for the worst and has been given a short time now :-(
Im looking at going from Auckland to Heathrow. Also does anyone know how assisted travel works?? Im doing this journey alone and am still recovering from a broken back, so wondered if id qualify for the assisted travel? Thanks any information would be very appreciated at this time.
Thanks

I am so sorry to hear your sad news.
If you have read my reports we had wheelchair assistance at Heathrow which never materialised so the best of luck with that.
I have been assured by the CEO's of BAA and also by Omniserv who provide this service that improvements have been made so please let me know how you get on with that.

Phone the airlines customer service.
I was given a seat on a plane with no seats.
You get discounted rates if you fly cattle class.
I used AirNZ and they were wonderful, all cabin crew prewarned of circumstances.
Sorry, can't help with the assist, but Mum couldn't fault Emirates when she had help coming here. Only let down by a student at Auckland, but for their part, the airline took great care of her.

sorry to hear of your news. As far as bereavement flights are concerned, they will help, but I had to write to the airline (Air NZ) after my journey was complete. They will require such things as copies of birth certificates (yours) and marriage certificates depending on how many are required to confirm a direct family link to the deceased (they also need a copy of the death certificate). In my situation they would only help if the cost of the flight was inflated due to it's last minute booking (so anything over the normal ticket price whatever that may be).

Sorry to read the sad news sean n. The worst of journeys to have to make . My heart goes out to you.
I booked Emirates .They got me there and back without fuss. I just presented myself to the customer service desks at each end and they whisked me through . Myself and my luggage went through the first class check-in with someone there to escort me.
I was given a seat in the area where there are just 2 seats together. They blocked the other seat so I had double room & was by myself for all the legs. It was a blessing I hadn't expected.
I needed to present a copy of my Dad's death cert on the return journey. They were obviously prewarned & waiting for me as I didn't even need to utter a word . Can't praise Emirates enough for what they did.
Phone their customer service department and see what they can do for you. Speaking direct is the best way to do this.
Can't help about the assisted travel. Hopefully Emirates will sort something out for you.
All the best for this journey & the return mate. My thoughts are with you and I hope you get to spend quality time with your Mum.

Re: bereavement flights
Really sorry to hear this Sean. My thoughts are with you too.
Just trying to sort out a fairly urgent flight for myself today. My Mum has been very ill recently & my Dad phoned this morning to say that she had a fall last night. They are both badly shaken & I just feel the need to go home to see Mum. Wish it wasn't so far away.
